How can I get my kids to go outside? Summertime is Funnertime, but how do I keep my kids active instead of glued to their phone?
I’m sure you remember getting back to school after break and not remembering anything. 😉 But, did you know kids can lose up to two months of learning during the summer?
A simple solution is to keep your kids involved in various activities. Keeping kids engaged will help them retain skills learned during the school year and learn new skills. Here are a few activities in the Tampa Bay area to keep your child engaged all summer long.
1.)Visit the Museum of Science and Industry: an educational playground with over 100 hands-on activities. Take a moment to gaze at stars and planets in the Saunders Planetarium, or explore the constantly changing Connectus center where you can immerse yourself in new technologies not yet available to the public. How about a physical challenge on the SkyTrial Ropes Course.
The Museum of Science and Industry also offers summer camp programs guaranteed to immerse your child in a mix of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) through experiments and building projects.
2.)Visit Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park or The Florida Aquarium to discuss environmental science topics and get close-up encounters with animals from different parts of the world. Remember to take advantage of special tours, seasonal events and be on the lookout for coming attractions.
3.)Beat the summer heat and visit a natural spring for swimming, kayaking, tubing, or paddle boarding. Florida’s natural springs are teeming with wildlife too! Some popular springs to visit include Weeki Wachee Springs, Devil’s Den, Blue Springs, Silver Springs, Rainbow Springs, Silver Glen Springs, Juniper Springs, Alexander Springs, Wekiwa Springs, Rock Springs DeLeon Springs, and Salt Springs. The list is practically endless!!
4.)Catch a show at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, where each show and event is created to make a positive impact on local youth. A number of children’s theatre performances are held throughout the year. All events are focused on educational themes with kid-friendly shows to provide an enriching experience for the entire family.
Until next time,
