My love for Flamingos began with my Mom who grew up just outside of D.C. When she was four, her father was killed in WWII, so her grandfather sent her heartbroken mother, my aunt, and my mom to stay in St. Petersburg, Florida for three months. It saved their lives as my mother told me many times over the years. Along with those memories were brightly colored plastic yard Flamingos that peppered the landscape like pink exclamation points. She loved them BECAUSE they were tacky.
Flamingomom blog is a co-creation of a close-knit community of writers who love family, friends, and food. As a Mother and Wife, I know my family, like yours, has had our share of adventures and misadventures. We’ve had highs and lows and felt at times we were running every which way but loose! But, the journey seems much less hectic when we have a community of like-minded women to share our laughs our loves and our heart language.
Like the wise Mark Twain said, “My Mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it.”
Our world has been microscopically centered around the home as we open our hearts and homes to extended family, friends, and neighbors. My hope for this blog is to spread compassion, love, and acceptance to all families and in the process raise kind and caring children.
We hope you will feel welcome to share your thoughts and stories with us, to share Hope for the hard times, Tenderness in the corners of our lives and compassion for all we encounter.
